The unit is orientated towards the needs of the community, so an interest in social and rehabilitative measures is important The unit serves the Eastern Bay of Plenty (pop. 46,000). Present staff includes specialist psychiatrist (whole-time, director) an assistant medical officer (part-time .9), a clinical psychologist, a psychiatric social worker and appropriate nursing staff. A district nurse post has recently been filled, with responsibility for domiciliary visiting, assessment and follow-up rrf psychiatric patient*. As far as possible the unit (14 acute admitting beds with day and outpatient facilities) is run as a therapeutic community and is psxchodynamically orientated. All disciplines — psychology, social work, occupational therapy, and nursing — are involved in planning the structure and programme within the unit. Salary will be within the scale $17.060/$22,161, plus 3.5 per cent interim special payment, plus C. 0.1.. allowance, commencing rate determined by the Grading Committee according to qualifications and experience.
