View of Integrity Centre
Sir, — I am glad the City Council decided against giving its official blessing and support to a moral revivalist campaign promoting “integrity”. I find the moral or religious revivalist usually far too simplistic in his approach to social problems and social improve-
ment. Repeating well-worn moral platitudes does not really get us very far and, if we do indulge this comforting activity, we run the risk of deceiving ourselves and falling into self-right-eousness and moral arrogance. I am thankful Christchurch has been saved from self-righteously proclaiming itself to be a “city of integrity”. — Yours, etc., HELEN HERVEY. February 22, 1978.
