Wool prices staying up
PA Auckland Prices at Auckland’s fifth wool sale of the season yesterday took an encouraging step up. Wool men described the sale as “very good,” and said prices were firm on last week’s healthy Invercargill sale. The official report said that in comparison with the Invercargill sale the market for fleece wools was unchanged: second shear was in sellers’ favour; best style and length lambs were in sellers’ favour; and the remainder were unchanged. In comparison to the last Auckland sale, fleece wool was 5 per cent dearer, second shear 7| to 10 per cent dearer and'lambs up to 2| per cent dearer.
The 30,000 bale offering was full length fleece, second shear and lambs wools in roughly equal proportion. Animated bidding throughout the day came from a full bench of buyers — Continental, Bradford, Eastern European and Japanese interests. The Wool Board gave minimal support, and purchases were negligible. The adjusted weighted Average Selling Price was 190.42 c per kilo. It will i apply until February 26.
