Mr Walker said that one] example of the general stan-• dard was the I2min run:! seven players were rated asi "excellent”. 13 as “very good’, and six as “good”. The other two had admitted tiiat they had been tardy in
their pre-season long-dis-tance work. "They were on a par with theii northern rivals, who attended a similar camp in Auckland the previous weekend." said Mr Walker. "It proved that they had been doing something over the summer." However, the New Zealand coach (Ron Ackland) had emphasised that while the plavers had shown themselves to be in good shape now they would have to be far fitter when the Kiwi trials were held in May. A second camp has been scheduled for March 18 and 19. In the meantime, all members of the squad have beer given training programmes to follow.
