Man on murder charge named

lan Rodger Harding, aged 20, a farmhand, was remanded in custody to March 15 by Mr F. G. Paterson, S.M., when he appeared in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday on a charge of murder. Harding, a married man, was charged that on February 6 he murdered Ronda Elizabeth Bain. Counsel (Mr S. G. Erber) sought the remand to March 15 — a nominal date from which the case could .advance — and also sought the continued interim suppression of his client’s name.

Was there any real reason for continuing with the suppression? the Magistrate asked. Mr Erber said his client had been interviewed by a number of people and that no firm conclusion had been reached by them. He said he was unable to advance any other reason. In that case, said the Magistrate, he saw no reason why the interim suppression order should not be lifted. Harding was in court for three minutes.
