It’s only Bert’
In the 19605, New Zealand’s great left-hander, Bert Sutcliffe, was travelling through the North Island coaching in various centres for Rothmans. It so happened that another of Rothmans sports representatives at that time was Don Clarke, one of New Zealand’s best known rugby players. Sutcliffe arrived in the Thames Valley on one occasion to coach a group of schoolboys. When he arrived, a group of youngsters, thinking their idol, Clarke, was in the car, rushed over to greet him. One youngster was heard to remark, "Oh, it’s only Bert Sutcliffe.”
