Knowles to drive Sole Command
PA Auckland. The regular driver of Captain Harcourt, T. H. Knowles, will also pilot Sole Command at the Inter Dominion Championships, which open at Moonee Valley, Melbourne, on Saturday week. He was engaged yesterday by R. C. Purdon, the trainer and a part owner of Sole Command. Asked what would happen if both Captain Harcourt and Sole Command qualified for the Grand Final. Purdon said: “No problem there. Peter Wolfenden has agreed to go over and drive Sole Command. “The Messenger meeting at Alexandra Park is on the Friday night and there is no meeting in the North Island on the Saturday, the night of the final.” Purdon said the two horses would not clash in any of the heats. Drivers had to be notified by final acceptance time at 5 p.m. on Friday and if a driver was engaged for more than one horse the horses would be drawn in different heats.
