Sugar-beet research grant sought
The executive of the. South Island Local Bodies’l Association has decided to send a telegram to the Minister of Trade and Industry (Mr Adams-Schneider) urgently seeking approval of an application for a research and development grant which would enable British experts to appraise prospects for a suger-beet industry in Canterbury. The Minister has previously advised the association that the outlook for a local sugar industry appeared to be bleak. “I am aware,” he wrote, “that the Canterbury Sugar Development Company, Ltd, in conjunction with experts from Tolimex Cekop, is at present undertaking a feasi-l
