Symposium
The Minister of Overseas Trade (Mr Taiboys) has invited leading Christchurch businessmen and trade unionists to an Export Symposium to be held at the Hotel Russley on Friday. The symposium, a part of the 1978 Export Year cam-i paign, will consider ways of improving New Zealand’s export performance. Similar meetings are being held in other cities. In his invitation, Mr Talboys said that there required to be a greater understanding in New Zealand of the need to improve export receipts by a whole hearted effort. “Within this wider context
we must have an active interest in industry from the factory floor to top management. Only if there is this (interest, concern, and comImitment can we really expect to see substantial [export earnings by any enterprise,” Mr Taiboys said. He will give his opening [address at 9.30 am. and throughout the day other speakers will make brief speeches on a range of topics including commitment and production for export, financial considerations, and human involvement and rewards. These will each be followed by informal discussion.
