Lomax on the mend

The 19-y ear-old New Zealand high jump recordholder, Terry Lomax (Canterbury), is making a remarkable recovery from the hamstring injury which put him out of the Canterbury championships less than a fortnight ago. He has put his crutches aside and has already started jogging. “It is iust a matter of time," he said. “With any luck I will be able to resume light training next w eek-end." Ixjmax now hopes he w ill be able to have at least one solid workout before the New Zealand championship in Wellington next month. '

He has certainly not despaired of winning the senior high jump title for the first time. “This is not a situation that is foreign to me.** he recalled. His win in the New Zealand junior championship two seasons ago was achieved after he had been out of action for much of the season with injury. Lomax currently shares the New Zealand record of 2.10 m with Lindsay Guthrie (Auckland). Before his injury, received while

competing in the junior long jump championship at Queen Elizabeth II Park, he appeared to be building up to his best form. Just a week before his injury he jumped 2.09 m to set a New Zealand junior record.
