PARADE OF BEACH GIRLS AT CIVIC

Robin Stewart will host the final of “Miss New Zealand Beachgirl" for 1978 from the Civic Theatre in Christchurch tonight in TV2’s six-thirty special. The first-place getter will win a holiday for two to Pacific Harbour, flying Air New Zealand and Fiji Air, with an activities pass and all food included, as well as a Kawasaki motor-cycle. Second prize is a caravan; third prize, a colour television set: fourth, a watch; and fifth, garden furniture. All finalists also receive jeans, a selection of cosmetics, camaras and wallet calculators. Two artists who will entertain during the programme appeared on “Op-

portunity Knocks” last year. They are Murray Chenery, who reached the semi-finals, and Skee, who appeared as the latter half of the singing duo Sonia and Skee in the programme.

There are 18 finalists who will be travelling to Christchurch from al) over the country.

The finalists are: Miss Southland, Rosemary Logie (Invercargill); Miss Golden Coast, Lynda Jane Dods (Wellington); Miss Waimarama, Donna Smith (Havelock North); Miss Raglan, Wendy Lynch (Hamilton); Miss Hibiscus Coast, Rosemary Postance (Auckland); Miss Pauanui Beach, Penny Hopper (Thames); Miss Bay of Plenty, Christine Lock-

wood (Palmerston North); Miss Northland, Anna Bax (Whangarei); Miss Whangamata, Barbara Beyda (Auckland); Miss Caroline Bay, Elizabeth Stringer (Timaru); Miss Kaiieriteri, Sandy Btown (Nelson); Miss Taranaki Beach, Karena Connolly (Auckland); Miss Waikuku, Donna Preston (Christchurch); Miss Whangaparaoa, Stephanie Hall (Auckland); Miss Whitianga. Elizabeth Pulford (Thames); Miss Napier, Andrea Bailey (Napier); Miss East Coast Bays, Debra Dowles); Miss Waipu Cove, Trish Tucker (Auckland. “Sports Special,” a new monthly sports “spectacular” on TVI will be hosted by the regular sports an-

chorman Philip Leishman. The first, tonight, concentrates primarily on The Super Bowl from New Orleans. It features the climax of the American football season with the Dallas Cowboys playing the Denver Broncos in the spectacular Louisiana Superdrome. From Murrayfield, Scotland, “Sports Special” presents rugby. It is a match from the Five Nations rugby tournament — the triumphant French playing the unpredictable Scots. Television One also screens a World in Action documentary tonight called “Got It Taped."

Hidden television cameras are the latest police weapons against crime in the United States. Since installation of the cameras, 2500 criminals have been caught and S3OM worth of stolen goods recovered.

Although the “World In Action” programme does not discuss the morality of using hidden cameras to expose criminals, the question -is none-the-less subtley put to the viewer. “Got It Taped” is particularly relevant to New Zealand since film is not admissable evidence in courts in this country.
