NZPA Seoul The Asian Amateur Athletic Association has voted, 6-3, to bar Israel and Taiwan from the third Asian track-and-field championships in Tokyo in May, 1979, a decision seen as a victory for pro-Peking and pro-Arab member nations.
Japan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, and India voted for the move, while Iran, Taiwan, and Israel opposed it. South Korea and Thailand abstained. The decision is subject to approval by the International Amateur Athletic Federation’s congress in Puerto Rico in October.
