Kapuni gas cuts oil bill
PA‘ Wellington Oil imports fell 22 per cent in the third quarter of last year, according to the Ministry of Energy Resources. There was a 19 per cent increase in local energy production, and the contribution of indigenous production to total supply rose from 50.5 per cent to 58.7 per cent.
Compared with the third quarter of 1976, there was only a 0.2 per cent increase in energy consumed. The substantial rise in indigenous energy supply resulted from the increased production of Kapuni natural gas and condensate. Coal production fell 13 per cent in the three months, however.
