Malaysians seek N.Z. education
NZPA Kuala Lumpur New Zealand continues to be a highly popular country for Malaysian students 'wishing to study at foreign high schools and universities. Government sources in Kuala Lumpur said that last year 9600 Malaysian students applied for entry to New Zealand high schools and universities. They said that many applicants were eliminated from consideration because of lack of previous educational qualifications or language difficulties. A number also withdrew from consideration because they were accepted by high schools or universities in other countries. Eventually, however, about 1000 applicants were selected as suitable for admission to the New Zealand educational system, and 270 gained places at schools and universities.
The New Zealand High Commissioner to Malaysia (Mr J. Shepherd) said he believed that about 2400 Malaysian students were now obtaining secondary or university education in New Zealand.
