Bonn set to hit at terrorism

NZPA-Reuter Bonn The West German Government, confronted in recent years by urban guerrilla violence today expects to squeeze a controversial package of tougher anti-ter-rorism laws through Parliament. The bills would give the police wider powers of search, and enable the authorities to bar defence lawyers of alleged terrorists from court if they are suspected of conspiring with their clients.

This allegation was laid against the lawyers of the Baader-Meinhof urban .guerrilla gang, whose members and sympathisers have been responsible for many of the recent political murders, bomb attacks, and kidnappings.

Some Left-wing members of the ruling Social Democratic Party (S.P.D.) have said the proposed lesislation infringes basic civil liberties.

The Government this week modified the bills to placate the rebels, and S.P.D. sources said they, expected the package to scrape through Parliament by about two votes.
