What wool makes best carpets?

New Zealand wool is widely used in blends for carpet manufacture both here and overseas, but there is still uncertainty about what sorts of wool it is most commercially desirable for a producer to grow. The manufacturer has certain ideas about the desirable attributes of wool for his purpose, and breeders are endeavouring t< produce wools which match up to these. The Wool Research Organisation is engaged in an ex-

penmental examination of wools to try to find out what does make a good carpet. The W.R.O. feels the time has come for everybody concerned with producing and using carpet wools to get together to work out guidlines for the future. To this end it is planning to hold a Carpet Wool Seminar at the Christchurch Wool Ex-

change on Monday and Tuesday April 10 and 11. Various speakers will present their views on aspects of carpet wools and their uses and time for discussion will be allowed. The proceedings will be published afterwards. Representatives of interested bodies are invited to write to Mr R. M. Pascoe, Wool Research Orangisation, Private Bag, Christchurch, for further details of the seminar.
