Unexpected call by merchantman
One of Blue Star Port Line's interpid band of conventional ships is making a surprise call at Lyttelton today. Just when it was thought Blue Star had cast in its lot with containers the Townsville Star turned up from South Africa to prove that conventional ships are still alive and kicking as far as Blue Star is concerned, at least on the United Kingdom run. Blue Star say she was to have called only at North Island ports but she was diverted at the last minute to pick up some Canterbury frozen meat. However, more in keeping with the times, Blue Star expects its first converted container ship on the west coast of North America run to berth in Lyttelton on February 26. She will be followed shortly after her arrival by one of Blue Star’s brand new container ships specially built for the Arabian Gulf run. ARRIVALS Coastal Trader (7 a.m.), 2629. Dunedin (S.C.N.Z.)
