Making old jeans look new
Give new life to shabby jeans by sewing gaily-col-oured embroidery stitches on them, or groups of gleaming buttons. Tiredlooking material becomes bright and attractive if you blanket-stitch around all the seams. Choose strong colours in wool and make bold stitches. Patches are fun to add to jeans, too. Form a square patch from two triangles and attach with big blanket stitching. You could sew on several patches from favourite scraps of material.
Embroidery is another way to decorate jeans. Sew your name in crossstitch on the back, or draw a scene in white chalk, and embroider over it in all sorts of colours. Finally, do not forget that rows of flat, shining buttons can transform jeans and make them smart. Sew matching buttons in the corners of the pockets, the yolk, or waist. Try to create a pleasing pattern and select buttons thoughtfully, particularly if you intend to mix ones of different colours or sizes.
