New head of fishing authority
Mr R. J. Maclachlan, a a former Directbr-General of Lands, will be the chairman of the new Fisheries Licensing Authority.
The two other members of the authority will be Mr J. Kenton, a past president of the Federation of Commercial Fishermen, and Mr H. Forbes, an adviser and counsellor to the Maori Queen, Dame Te Ata-i-rangi Kaahu.
Provision was made to establish the authority earlier this year after the enactment of the Fisheries Amendment. Bill. Its main task will be “to consider applications for licences to fish in controlled fisheries and to grant, renew, revoke, or amend such licences.”
