Concerto finalists

Two flautists and a violinist will contest the Christchurch Civic Music Council’s annual concerto competition in February. Alison Catanach, who played the first and second movements of Mozart’s Flute Concerto in D major, Rachel Skinner, who played three movements from Gordon Jacob’s Flute Concerto, and Wilma Smith, who played two movements from Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor, were selected last evening in the James Hay Theatre. The judges were Messrs
Robert Glenton and Frank! . Gurr. The three finalists will . play their entire concertos , with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra before Mr , Keith Field, from the Vic- [ toria College of the Arts, in . Melbourne, in the final. I Mr R. Field-Dodgson i thanked Mrs R. W. Hendry i for her help in successfully liarranging the competition; I and the judges commended Liam Gill, Judith Williams, Karin Lamb and Riki McDonnell for their playing at preliminary concerts, although they had not been recalled for this one.
