I'ilnis on TV Sir.— On reading the latest ’"Listener” I see we I are to endure further old film, made in .1935 and 1944. I am wondering how much longer we have to ; view these oldies — ■ where do they find them? With the many repeats we are not getting value for the licence fee we pay. If you are fortunate to receive TV2 for alternative viewing you have some compensation, as their programmes 'appear to be more modern and 1 selective. The West Coast | is told that the second I channel will not be availi able until 1980, so unless ; someone in the | programme-buying depart- < meat sees the “light” i soom I’m beginning to I wonder whether owning a ■ TV set is woth while at I all. If finances don’t per- ! mit buying worthy films, : is the second channel neci essary after all? Would ' any of the powers that be : care to comment? But in ; the meantime — back to • the book. B. J. Goodman (Otira) ‘’Buff and pant” Sir, — What vanity. I ; wonder why “Celebrity ; Super Stars” which fea- ; tures many TV reporters, ; interviewers, and news ! readers should dare to ■ presume that we, the > viewers, should get plea- ! sure from viewing them puff and pant through one i hour of prime viewing • time and call it enter* i tainment. — V. FRANCES
