FIJIANS HAVE HAD LONG INNINGS
One of the most popular . ticket teams to visit. New Zealand, the Fijians, begin their tour this season on December 29 at Whangarei. The team will be captained by a 38-year-oid, Curly Valentine, a veteran of two trips to New Zealand and one to Australia. However, Valentine is merely a youngster compared to two of his teammates. Eroni _ Loganimoce, a 47-year-old carpenter, has made three trips to New Zealand as a righthand opening batsman. Uraia Sorovakatmi is two years younger than Lo-
ganimoce. He toured this country tn 1961 and 196869 and is one of the team’s two wicket-keepers. Radio commentators may have difficulty in getting their tongues around names like Vincent Aiyappand and Inoke Vaikauyaki, both making their first overseas trip. The two players with the most easily pronouncable names are Rod Jepsen and Jack McGoon, both Suva representatives. The youngest player is Jaswan Singh, a 23-year-oid secondary school teacher from Lautoka.
The tour will consist of 15 matches against minor associations including oneday matches at Westport, Greymouth and Oamaru and two-day games at Waimate and Ashburton against South Canterbury and Ashburton, respectively. Always very likeable players, the Fijians produce an entertaining, enthusiastic style of cricket with little thought given to defensive or negative play. The tour ends with a two-dav match at Pukekohe agamst Franklin on January 29 and 30,
