Last week’s yarding of 662 head was followed with a yarding of 701 which was well above requirements. Many of the good mediumweight steers did not show much change tn the early part of selling, but as cattle continued to arrive, the market began to weaken. Steers lost $lO to $l2 on last week s rates, — particularly the light cattle — and heifers eased a steady $3 to $lO. The cow market remained tatrly close to export rates. Steer beef ranged from about 152 c to 57c. with odd pens of ’choice cattle sold early In the day at 59c: heifer beef at 47c to 's2c, and most of the cow beef about 44c a kg. Dairy cattle The dairy cattle sale showed some signs of revival with an offering of 10 head, and they met a surprisingly improved inquiry . The feature of the section was‘a Friesian with her third calf at foot at $162. Agents hoped it was a good omen for sales to come. Five springing heifers, still some time from calving, fetched $122. and a Jersey cow with calf at foot, $lO2. All told, it was quits a satisfactory sale. Vealers Vealers had a much weaker sale. The yarding of 230 head was well abate demand, and the market was S 8 to $l9 easier from the outset. Only the best vealers reached or bettered $80; others sold down to $5O. Or; estimated dressed weight, much veal sold about 46c a kg, and no more than 48c. Fat pigs Fat ptg values opened on a much easier note, but as selling continued, good quality pigs firmed to last week’s rates. The yarding was the biggest of the vear, and quality was very mixed. Too many fat pigs w ere ion hand. They had a hard sale, passings being frequent. Another large yarding of chopI pers had a firm sale on recent rates. ! Values were:— Light and medium porkers, s3s to 544.50. I Heavy porkers. $45 to $52. i Light and medium baconers, $53 to $57. ! Heavy baconers, $53 to $62.59. Choppers, good, to 860.
