Senior croquet
The highlight of yesterday’s play in the Canterbury senior croquet tournament, being played at Fendalton and Holmes Park this week, was the win in the intermediate singles final of Isabel Deavoll. Mrs Deavoll beat Ernie Horwood in the final, 26-21. Results:— Open championship singles. — Mrs G. Cleve 26, Mrs R. Foster 13; J. McNab 26, Mrs F. Fraser Levels singles.—First life: Miss E. Innes 26, J. Hearnshaw 18; Mrs I. Horwood 26, Mrs Z. Drake 17. Women’s singles.—First life: Mrs Cleve 26, Mrs T. Thompson 19. Second life: Mrs I. Baldwin 26, Mrs Fraser 21; Mrs Thompson 26, Mrs Drake 10. Men’s singles.—First life: D. Miskimmin 26, D. Stanton 17. Second life: Hearnshaw 26. Miskimmin 19. Handicap singles.—Mrs E. Aitchison 26, Mrs Drake 12; Mrs A. Blue 26, Miskimmin 23, Tennis.—The veteran American Billie Jean King is the latest top overseas entrant for the Marlboro Australian open at Kooyong next month. Tennis.—The American Eddie Dibbs pulled off a surprisingly easy 6-4, 6-1 win against Raul Ramirez of Mexico, in the final of the Oviedo grand prix tennis tournament in Spain.
