Asians take basketball
The two favoured teams, Singapore Airlines and Japan Airlines, won the finals of the men’s and women’s sections at the sixth Far East and South Pacific Airlines basketball tournament, held at Cowles Stadium last week.
Singapore, winners of the men’s section on four of the previous five tournaments, beat the host team, N.A.C., in the final, 66-61, but was forced to fight hard towards the end of the match by a determined home team.
Japan Airlines won its sixth straight women’s title, with a 45-43 win over N.A.C. Ansett Airlines finished third in the men’s section and Trans Australia Airlines was third in the women’s competition.
