Dwelling permits fall sharply
PA Wellington Permits to build new dwellings in October are down by almost one-third on the number issued last year, according to estimates by the Deputy Government Statistician. An estimated 1778 permits were issued in October this year compared with 2627 i'ssued last year. The statistician’s figures are based on his assessment of early returns from local authorities and allow for Government work. In the year to October 31, an estimated 25,612 permits for dwellings were issued, compared with 30,740 for the same period in 1976 and 30,987 in 1975. In the six months to October 31, 13,518 permits were issued, compared with 17,966 in 1976 and 19,415 in 1975.
