Five centuries

The Canterbury Cricket Association’s lower grade competition on Saturday was remarkable for fine individual performances —including five centuries. The top scorer was the High School Old Boys fifth grade batsman, D Palmer, who scored an unbeaten 130 against Lancaster Park. R. Cocks scored 111 for Police against Old Boys in the president’s grade, and J. Hobbs scored an unbeaten 110 for Christ’s College against Burnside-West University in the third grade. T. Lightfoot was another to score an unbeaten century, 109 for Sydenham against BurnsideWest in the ninth grade and J. Kiddey made exactly 100 for Riccarton against Lancaster Park in the fourth grade. The day's top bowling performance came from the Lancaster Park bowler, B. Thomason, in the third grade. He took 9/67 against Sydenham. The St Albans left-arm bowler, H. Shepherd, took 8/33 against Riccarton in the third grade. Five players took seven wickets in an innings, D. G. Leggat (Old Boys) and G. A. Walklin (St Albans) in the second grade, J. Fisher (Sydenham) in the fourth grade and L. Moyle (EastShirley) and C. Clark (Riccarton) in the seventh grade. Moyle also scored an unbeaten 82. Second grade Lancaster Park 202/9 dec. and 10/0 met Marist 201/3 dec. (Connell 59 not out). East-6hlrley 128 and 4/0 met Old Collegians 127/7 dec. St Albans 179 (G. Hulston 64 not out) met Sydenham 125 (G. Walklin 7/63). Riccarton 207/9 dec. (M. Kirkland 98) met Burnside-West University 121/4. Christchurch Boys’ High School 120 (D. G. Leggat 7/30) and 49/3 met High School Old Boys 130 (C. Marks 53; R. Leggat 5/35). Third grade Lancaster Park 216/8 dec. (R. Meaclen 87. Lester 55; P. Dillon 5/72) and 13/1 met Sydenham 171 (J. Gray 93; B. Thomason 9/67). Riccarton 99 (H. Shepherd 8/33) and 54/4 met St Albans 151/9 dec. (Haines 5/35). Burnside-West University 168 (Wilson 56 not out; T.
