©New Zealand Council for Educational Research APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED from suitably qualified individuals for the following positions: RESEARCH OFFICER EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION The successful appointee to this position will be expected to assist with the planning of a comprehensive programme of research on early childhood education, to help pre-school organisations and honorary research workers engaged on research in this field and to be well-informed about research tn other countries that is of special interest to New Zealand. Preference will be given to applicants with M.A. or Ph.D. degrees or with a comparable level of experience in child development, or pre-school education. Experience in working with pre-school organisations in this country or elsewhere will be considered an advantage. RESEARCH INFORMATION OFFICER This position calls for an appointment for an officer to specialise in conveying research information to practising teachers, school principals, and those providing instruction in a variety of settings. This will centre around the editorial management of the Council’s attractive research information kit known as set; supervision of the marketing arrangements for the Council’s research monographs, periodicals and books, assistance to the Council’s regional institutes and other scholarly organisations, the administration of lecture tours, or seminars and help for those organising in-service courses. Here too, preference will be given to applicants with an M.A. or higher degree who have a good grasp of research literature, some editorial experience, and some knowledge of inservice training, or dissemination practices. Evidence of successful teaching practice at the primary, secondary or tertiary level will also be expected . TEST ADVISORY OFFICER The duties of this officer will be directed toward provision of information and advice to the users of educational and psychological tests, the supervision of the Council’s Test Library, and the handling of enquiries on problems of test supply and distribution. The successful appointee will be expected to undertake various validation studies and to assist with related research projects being sponsored by the Council. It is expected that applicants will have completed academic studies to the level of an M.A. or higher degree, and have an interest in developing ways of conveying up-to-date information on testing and assessment practices to test users in schools, industry, Government services and voluntary agencies. Some experience with editorial work or simplifying technical literature will be an advantage.” NOTE TO APPLICANTS: The salaries for each of the above positions will be within the range offered to lecturers in New Zealand Universities ($9874-$12,170 plus C.O.L. $365 and interim 3.5 per cent). R. McKenzie Trust Board, the Council is again able to offer a one-year .fellowship to enable suitably qualied graduates to investigate an educational problem in New Zealand under its direction. Since 1961 this Fellowship has become known, both here and abroad, as one of the country’s most important, awards for scholarly enquiry leading on to a career in educational research. The council is at present sponsoring research into professional and vocational training. pre-school education, Maori schooling, test development, curriculum evaluation, language development, and the educational problems of the South Pacific. Applicants are expected to outline a research proposal they would like to undertake. Proposals in any of the above fields will be welcomed but proposals in other areas will also be considered.
