Seminar on new maps
The Ministry of Works i and Development is produc-1 ing a series of maps with a ; difference. In addition to the usual information, they show things such as rock i and soil types, slope, vegeta- • tion, and erosion potential. The 200 maps covering i the North Island have been j completed, and the 190 for the South Island are, after three years, almost finished, according to the Ministry of Work’s chief scientist in Christchurch. Mr D. Ferrier. The Ministry’s task is now to explain the use of the maps to those who will make use of them — planners, consultants, architects, members of local authorities, pest destruction boards, and others. Special seminars started in Auckland and Northland 18 months ago. and one is planned for Christchurch on November 29.
