Labour’s Papanui choice
The former Labour member of Parliament for Eden, Mr M. K. Moore, has won the Labour Party’s nomination for the Papanui electorate. The electorate is one of the biggest in Christchurch and Mr Moore has won the candidacy ahead of 10 other Labour nominees. These Included Mr N. G. Pickering, a former Mayor of Christchurch and a city councillor, Mrs Mollie Clark. Mr Moore, who is a social worker, lost the Eden seat in 1975 and earlier this year failed to gain the Labour nominations in Mangere and Pa pal oe toe. The Labour Party selection panel took more than two hours to decide the nomination and the result was confirmed at about 11.30 last evening.
