Yacht refloated
From
BARRY SIMPSON
A 13.7 m Nelson yacht which was driven ashore at the Anchorage, in Torrent Bay, at the height of a storm on Saturday night, was refloated on Sunday. She was returning to Nelson last evening. The Valuna, an almost new ferro-concrete ketch valued about $50,000, is owned by Mrs Una Edgecumbe of Nelson. The yacht dragged her anchor during the storm and ended lying up the sandy beach of the Anchorage. The boat, built for the late Mr Vai Edgecumbe at Blenheim and completed in Nelson last year, is for sale. She was being tried out bv a prospective buyer
when the accident occurred. The occupants of the craft, Mr Malcolm FellSmith and six others, were able to scramble ashore when the boat beached about 11.30 on a moonless night during a rain and wind storm. They were fortunate to find shelter for the night in the bach of Mr Vern Goodwin at the Anchorage — one of the baches the Abel Tasman National Park Board says must be vacated and dismantled ov 1984.
Three fishing vessels and two other yachts helped pull the Valuna off the sand during a flood tide on Sunday. She is reported to be undamaged.
