Display to help military museum
More than 1300 people have contributed towards setting up a military museum at Ferrymead Historic Park. About $5OO has been raised from a display of models and military equipment and the “playing” of war games by the Christchurch War Games Society at an exhibition in the Horticultural Hall.
The secretary of the Ferrymead military section (Mr J. R. Proctor) said last evening that public support for the proposed military museum was most encouraging.
A building which was formerly a dining room at Bumham Military Camp has been shifted to Ferrymead and will be placed in position when site preparation is completed. The New Zealand Army plans to set up a similar, but much larger exhibition at Waiouru.
The proposed Ferrymead military museum had the full support of a number of military groups in Christchurch, said Mr Proctor. The model display would continue until November 19, he said.
