Cricket draws 12 teams
Two teams from the, Christchurch Suburban | : Cricket Association will I make their debut, in opposi-i tion to each other, when the second twilight cricket tournament begins at Hospital) Corner next Monday evening The Suburban senior and, colts representative squads' will join the 10 sides which : competed in the first round-[ robin series last summer. The tournament will once; again be sponsored by “Thel Press” with individual awards being provided by Cedarwood. Lion Breweries and the Canterbury Sports Depot. The top four teams will receive monetary rewards of $2OO, SI 00. $5O and $25, with another $lOO being divided on the proportion of sixes hit by each side. Jamieson) [said that no teething ■troubles had been e.x[perienced last year and that clubs had welcomed the opportunity for additional 'open-wicket practice. [ Burnside-West ChristI church-University will be [defending “The Press" TroIphy. The runner-up in the [first contest was Lancaster [Park, with St Albans and I Riccarton finishing equal third. No major rule alterations have been needed. Teams will comprise nine players and innings will last for 21 six-ball overs. Players will be restricted to 35 runs or three wickets, and bonus and win points are at stake. The series will end on February 13.
