Cue clues for Chch pupils
Christchurch schoolchildren will have the opportunity to match their billiards and snooker skills under the eyes of some of the best players in the world while the world amateur billiards championship is being played in the city next month.
A small billiards table will be placed in Cathedral Square from noon to 2 p.m. on the week days of the championship, which runs from December 1 to 17, and each day two of the overseas competitors will be in attendance.
There will be a halfhour coaching period for a start and then an interschool competition will be conducted. Each team will comprise five players (boys or girls), three play-
Ing snooker and two billiards. Each game will last 15 minutes.
There will be separate competitions for primary and secondary schools, with prizes in the secondary section of $5O, $3O, and $lO (third and fourth) and in the primary section $25, $l5, and $5. The organiser of the world championship (Mr Frank Holz) hopes that the lunch-time games will stimulate interest in the championship, which is to raise funds for the Royal New Zealand Foundation for the Blind. The event, which incorporates an international snooker tournament, is being sponsored by Citizen Watches and will be held in the Ngaio Marsh Theatre at Ham.
