Park in strong position
Lancaster Park and Sydenham are in comfortable positions after the first day of the second round in the senior women’s cricket competition on Saturday.
Sent in to bat by Park. St Albans lost three quick wickets but a fight back by the middle order took the total to a meagre 80, Debbie Hockley took four wickets for no runs.
Park at stumps was 151 for four with Shirley Cowles not out on 90 and Susan Moore one short of her first 50 in senior cricket.
The young Cashmere team, badly beaten in the first round, I was in trouble again on Saturiday, being dismissed in its first I innings for 61. Pat Carrick I bowled well to take five wickets ifor eight. Cashmere kept its 'hopes alive however by dismissing Sydenham for 109. Nancy Williams took seven wickets for 38 runs.
The match between BurnsideWest University and Riccarton was evenly poised. Burnside batted first and was out for 120. Annette Cooper, with five for 39, and the New Zealand repreisentatlve, Sherree Harris (four ifor 27) were the best bowlers.
At stumps Riccarton was only me run ahead and had one vicket in hand. Sue Rattray was
78 not out. Kathryn Ferry was the best Burnside bowler with five for nine. Results were:— SENIOR St Albans 80 iD Jelly 18, K. Gllray 32; D. Hockley ’ 4/0, K. Hadlee 2/23, D. Brown 2/27), Lancaster Park 152/4 (S. Cowles 90 not out, S. Moore 49; K. Gllray 2/34). Cashmere 61 (R. Bell 39; P. Carrick 5/8, L. Shanland 3/16' and 8/2 met Sydenham 109 (L. Shankland 33, S. Storev 17: N. Williams 7/36, L. Moffett 2/14). Burnside-West University 120 (M. Turner 25, J. Jamieson 20, J. Lawn 21; S. Harris 4/27, A. Cooper 5/39) met Riccarton 121/9 (S. Rattray 78 not out, A. Cooper 13; K. Perry 5/9, M. Turner 2/30;. SECOND GRADE Burnside-West Universitv 82 (A. White 26, D. Avery 18; R. Lewis 3/27, B, Shanks 2/1) beat Sydenham 75 'K. Thornton 23; iC. Keenan 4/7, D. Avery' 4/12) and 18/1.
P.I.C.C. 118 'Sa Taula 19, V. loseia 49; J. Mcßobie 3/33. K. Murphy 3/50, S. Roud 2/7) beat St Albans 11 24 (T. Tultaupi 6/5, G. Newport 3/16) and 50/9 (J. Mcßobie 17, L. Rau 22: T. Tuitaupi 4/4. G. Newport 3/30).
