Record bets for course
A crowd of 11,792 bet a course record of §629,666 on New Zealand Cup day at Riccarton on Saturday. This was an increase of §77,309 on the previous best, recorded on New Zealand Cup day last year, when the Cup was run on the first day of the meeting.
On-course bets for the three-day meeting this year totalled §1,509.856. an’ increase of §107,531. The T.A.B. total for the three days was §2,164.508.50, not (including the club’s share of betting on the special Cups double. The off-course total for 'this year’s meeting was i $114,269.50 down on last year.
