Report on social services
Wellington reporter Recommendations to reorganise and revitalise social services are being considered by the Government.
The proposals are contained in a report from a special social services committee established late last year by the National Research Advisory Council to look into the whole question. The details are still confidential. The committee called a general conference on the subject last May and since then has been holding talks with the Government departments involved and other interested parties.
A wrap-up meeting was held this week and, although absolute unanimity was not achieved, the report has gone to the Minister of Science (Mr Gandar) for him to show his Ministerial colleagues. Further action, and the decision on what aspects of the report to publish, and when, now rest with Mr Gandar.
