Overseas students in nursing course

Parliamentary reportei Wellington

The latest diploma course run by the School of Advanced Nursing Studies, Wellington, has 50 graduates, 42 from New Zealand and eight from overseas, the Department of Health says. The overseas graduates come from Fiji, Tonga, Singapore, Western Samoa, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea.

The course run by the School of Advanced Nursing Studies is for the preparation of nursing leaders and includes a theoretical nursing studies course com-

plemented by field experience. The field experience lasts for three weeks and entails the study and nursing of one particular person, about whom the student writes a detailed report.

On entering the school, students have three options open to them, each relating to a different field of nursing.

They may, for example, specialise in hospital nursing services. Alternatively, a course on community health nursing qualifies nurses to work in the community. The third and final option is related to education in schools of nursing, and is of particular relevance to nurse teachers.
