Diplomat's wife dead
PA Wellington The young wife of a New Zealand diplomat in Bangkok has died from encephalitis, the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Mr Taiboys) said yesterday. She was Jennifer Chilton, wife of Mr Michael Chilton, first secretary at the New Zealand Embassy. Mr Taiboys said Mrs Chilton had been admitted to hospital last week w’ith a viral infection which had been confirmed as encephalitis.
“Everything possible was done for her but the course of the illness could not be halted, and she died in hospital on November 3,” he said.
Mrs Chilton’s parents, who live in Marton, had flown from New Zealand and were in Bangkok when she died’.
Her funeral will be held in Bangkok today and memorial services will be held later in New Zealand. Mr and Mrs Chilton had two young children. Mr Taiboys expressed his deep sympathy for Mrs Chilton’s family.
