Concern over hockey beds

Teams at the national men’s hockey tournament in Masterton next August could find themselves split if information about accommodation the Canterbury Hockey Association has received is correct. The association believes that none of the accommodation available in Masterton is capable of taking a team of 17—including officials—without using double beds.

It added up the numbers of beds available and found it to be 441. If 26 teams attend the tournament next year—the same number as this year—and each has a party of 17, there will be a total of 442 people.

Besides players there are 1J umpires and usually a number of supporters for the various teams. The C.H.A. was con. cerned there would be no accommodation available for these people. One member of the association said he could not get a bed in Wanganui for the national tournament this year, and it was a much larger centre than Masterton. The C.H.A. will write to the

New Zealand Hockey Association pointing out the apparent lack of accommodation and that con. sideration should be given la changing ihe venue if accommodation arrangements are unsatlsI factory.
