Poland in cup finals
Poland, which finished third in the 1974 World Soccer Cup finals in West Germany, became the eighth country to reach next, year’s finals in Argentina when it drew, 1-1, at home to Portugal on Saturday. It joined West Germany (the cup holder), Argentina (the host), Brazil, Peru, Mexico, Scotland, and the Netherlands, which have al-
ready reached the last 16. Hungary faces a gruelling trip to La Paz on November 30 for a return match against Bolivia but its 6-0 first-leg victory in Budapest should see it through. The Olympic champion, East Germany, showed no mercy against tiny Malta, winning, 9-0, but it must now rely on Turkey for its ticket to Argentina.
