Third win in Mobil run

PA Auckland Two Aucklanders, Jim Carder and Bob Kidd, won their section for the third time in three years driving the same model of car when the Mobil economy run ended in Auckland on Saturday. Driving a Triumph 2500 TC the two won class C of the run for cars over 2000 cu cm. They managed 36.394 miles a gallon for the fiveday run.

The two men were outright winners of the run in 1975 and last year, although a change in the event this year means there will be no over-all winner. The New Zealand Motor Corporation won the team prize.

An average speed of 63km/h was maintained during the run in spite of the sometimes tight conditions. A Mobil spokesman said this meant the consumption figures obtained could be repeated by the average motorist.
