Adamson loses top table tennis spot

In spite of retaining his Canterbury singles titles and reaching the quarter-finals of the national championships at Timaru, Wayne Adamson has lost bls top position in the recently released Canterbury table tennis rankings for 1977. That spot has been given to the South Island champion, Yee Chow Boi with Adamson moving down to second place and Maurice Burrowes, second last year, dropping to third. On the national rankings for the year, Yee, Burrowes and Adamson are ranked seventh, eighth and ninth respectively. The most significant rise is from the top junior, Stuart Armstrong, who after being in equal twentieth place last year, suddenly finds himself in seventh position.

Les Stewart drops from fourth to eighth and two players Stephen Adamson and Graham Condllffe. are Included on the list after missing out last year. They occupy twelfth and thirteenth places respectively. Jan Morris, naturally, heads the women’s rankings with Barbara Taylor filling second position, Philippa Marks third and Thelma May fourth positions. In the junior boys table, four players make their first entry, Michael Clasper, Stephen Dixon, Martin Kelly and Peter de Boer. Ingrid Jagersma and Debbie Laycock retain the two top places in the junior girls rankings. Tlie rankings are:—
