Palestine in form for Kaikoura

the reduction of the Kaikoura Cup field to 11 starters, will help Palestine carry on his winning way as he prepares for the $75,000 New Zealand Cup at Addington Raceway tomorrow week. Last Monday he won the Hannon Memorial at Oamaru for the second year, a feat recorded earlier by Johnny Globe.

Today he is due of four runners handicapped on 10m in the Kaikoura Cup, to be run over 2400 m. Palestine has taken time .to strike top form this seasori, and he has now reached a high peak of fitness under the guidance of his trainer, Terry May.

The Kaikoura Cup is usually run at a merry clip, which will suit Palestine, a pacer not noted for his sprinting prowess.

Final- Curtain won the Kaikoura Cup on a soft track 12 months ago. He has had a splendid build-up for this southern campaign and he should be one of the better chances.

His stablemate, Sole Coifimand, to be driven by Peter Wolfenden, will also be in demand-

S& Brewer, which did I well to finish fifth at Alexandra Park after a slow start 'last Wednesday, could be the'pick of tlie horses attempting to be correctly placed on the front of the New Zealand Cup. However, Rocky Tryax must be considered, as must Nimble Yankee, which turned in a remarkable run for fourth at Addington Raceway last Friday. '■ . 7.

In or Out and Captain Harcourt are capable of getting into the - finish, while Bolton Byrd must be considered in what will be his first start since suffering a setback early in the spring. Seafield Majesty beat all but the talented three-year-old, Glide Time, at Addington on Friday. That placing puts her high on the list of possibilities in the second leg, the Stewards' Handicap. Jaunty Hanover and Abbe Gold appeal most of the others, while Bradleigh and Remorse could also be prominent.
