Mrs Marion Barrett and her daughter, Sarah, enjoy the facilities at the newly renovated St Martins Library, Wilsons Road. One of Christchurch’s most active suburban libraries, St Martins Library, recently celebrated its fiftieth anniversary. With a subscribing list of 504 adults and 1020 children, the library is
staffed by Mrs Helen Constable, the children’s librarian, and a large team of volunteer helpers. The extensive improvements at the library were done without disruption to subscribers, by the Canterbury Public Library carpenter, Mr Lewis Jackson, assisted by committee members. The patron of the library is the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr H. G. Hay).
