Sharmbro raced about five ; back from the pace, while Spartan Prince was on the outer and in the open for most of the way. Sharmbro had to work hard to gain a narrow advantage and an overdue win. Lord Rodney did well to finish third, five lengths back. He was checked when Pointer Hanover broke at the 1600 m.
