Centreboarders get O.K.
PA Auckland The centreboard yachts Smir-Noff-Agen and Jenny H, now look certain to join Swuzzlebubble as the New Zealand representatives in the Southern Cross Cup in December.
The inspectors of the N.Z. Yachting Federation are apparently satisfied that the two One Tonners are category one safety clearance material. This means they should both be given the goahead to cross the Tasman Sea under their own sail to get to Sydney for the fourrace international series which starts on December 18. The inspectors met on Tuesday night to review the situation after watching the progress of the new centreboard designs in both the
One Ton and Southern Cros trials.
Smir-Noff-Agen and Jenny H will now be inspected for category one clearance just like any other boat. They already have a category two clearance for offshore contests like the One Ton and Southern Cross, which includes the Sydney-Hobart classic, but a category one clearance is necessary for a Tasman crossing. The differences in qualifications for the respective clearances are mainly in safety equipment Swuzzlebubble is to be shipped to Sydney for the world Half Ton Cup series and so does not require category one clearance. She and Smir-Noff-Agen automatically made the Southern Cross team after finishing first and second in the Ceramco trials.
