Yachts race to Cape Town
NZPA-Reuter Portsmouth A close finish between the Dutch entry Flyer and Britain’s King’s Legend was predicted last night as the leading yachts neared the end of the first leg of the round-the-world yacht race. Only 15 miles apart and neck-and-neck on handicap, the two leaders were expected to arrive in Cape Town today according to reports received at race control headquarters in Portsmouth.
The two yachts have been vying for the lead over the past fortnight. The contest began in Portsmouth 39 days ago.
Behind Flyer and Legend a close contest was developing for third place between the British yacht Adventure and the European Common Market entry, Traite de Rome.
