Engineer, with love of sea and hills, dead

Mr Peter Donald Anderson, a former engineer of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, died on Friday. He was 43. i Mr Anderson was born ini Palmerston North and attended Palmerston North Boys’ High School, and then the University of Canterbury. He worked for the Lyttelton Harbour Board for about four years before joining Mr Lyall Holmes as a consulting engineer. In 1964, he helped to set up Hardie and Anderson, a firm which designed many industrial, educational, and communal buildings; throughout New Zealand. and designed buildings and bridges for them. He was on the committee lof Institution of Engineers, a member of several committees for advanced design /and construction for the Standards Association, and completed special projects for-the Earthquake Commission. Mr Anderson was also an enthusiastic sailor — he built his own yacht, raced for several years, and two years ago skippered her in the Whangarei-to-Noumea race. He was a committee member of the Banks Peninisula Cruising Club. Mr Anderson is survived Iby his wife, two sons and a 'daughter.
