Situation: A ridge of high pressure is crossing central New Zealand and a strong northwesterly airstream is spreading on to the South Island from the Tasman Sea. Forecasts: Marlborough, Nelson: Northwesterlies freshening, becoming strong about Cook Strait and the outer Marlborough Sounds; fair, with
some showers about the Nelson ranges, moderate. Buller, Westland: Moderate variable winds; rain developing; cool. Canterbury: North-easterlies about the coast, freshening north-westerlies inlandrain about the Alps, fair elsewhere; warm. Outlook: Showers in Buller Westland, and about the eastern Alps; variable cloud elsewhere.
